Question

Well, I broke down and took a pg test today, and of course BFN. I didn't really expect any differently. Now here's my question. Do I still have to go to ART to let them do blook work? I mean I really don't need them to confirm what I already know. I don't need to drive an hour, use my gas, pay for parking, pay my co-pay, for them to tell me something I know the answer to. We've decided to take next month off, I need an emotional break, and we need to try to save some money, plus I thought it would be stupid to try again until the Dr. figures out if DH's swimmers are even able to penetrate an egg. So I thought about just saying "oops I've started my period--I won't be coming in today" when my period isn't due until 2 days after my scheduled pregnancy test. But then, I hate to lie. I just don't want them to tell me I have to come in, or try to plant some false hope in me, by telling me my home pregnancy test may not be accurate. Thoughts?

  1. Oh Rachel,

I'm sorry, I don't know what to tell you to do...just go with your gut, as I find that decision to be the one that gives me comfort.

If it makes you feel any better, AF is due to show for me any day as well :( I'm right here with you. This process gets overwhelming and is daunting..a break may be good.

  2. I had that same question with my IVF. They said they wanted to see what my levels were for some reason or another.....but if i had to do it over I wouldnt have gone in and just saved my money.
If I were you I would wait and see if I got AF in the next couple of days.

  3. When I started my period after my first IUI they had me change my appointment from the day of my expected period to Day 3. That way they could do the ultrasound to look for cysts and the bloodwork on the same day. PLUS...it sounds like you've tested early...there still is a chance you could be pregnant this cycle...don't give up hope too soon!

  4. I have a feeling they'll want you to come in anyway if you call them. I'm going to post about some local people getting together. Email me and we can see if we can coordinate something!

  5. I'm not sure what your doc will say- what dpo are you? Are you late by your normal standards? My RE would probably say wait a couple days and then retest and if it is still - then I could come in for bloodwork just to confirm.....

  6. Well, It had only be 8 days since the IUI. I know that's early..too early to test, but I honestly just know I'm not pregnant. My appointment that they set up for my blood pg test is scheduled for Tuesday the 16th. Which is 2-3 days before my period is supposed to start anyways. I don't understand why they have me coming in before I am even supposed to start. It kind of feels like they just want my money. And since I'm not doing treatments, there is really no need for baseline for next cycle.

  8. Hey, don't make fun...I'm losing my mind here! I think I'm relying more heavily on my feelings then that stupid stick anyways. I think I need to get away for a while. I've never felt to crazy in my life.

  9. It is possible that there could be a Labcorp closer to you. I am going to be out of town for my preg test and that is what I am doing. At least you wouldn't have to use gas.

  10. I was not making fun, just gentle teasing!! But seriously, it was way too early ;-) And while it's true that maybe you aren't pregnant, I have read tons of stories of people who were pregnant who were convinced they weren't!

    hang in there!
